University-Driven Research Programme (UDRP)

The University-Driven Research Program (UDRP) at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is a cross-disciplinary strategic research initiative under the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation). This program is designed to support UPM's RDICE 2050 Vision by focusing high-impact research on national and global challenges.

Under the Global Halal Champion core, UDRP empowers UPM's leadership in global halal science, technology, and management through three main focus areas:

  • Halal Authentication
Focus on the discovery of biological markers (marker discovery), the detection of non-halal substances, the development of screening kits and mobile devices, as well as the construction of a halal verification database.

  • Halal Health and Wellness (Halal Healthcare and Wellness)
Focus on the development of halal pharmaceuticals, nutraceutical products, functional bioactive compounds, as well as clinical trials for the purpose of mutualizing health products.

  • Food Formulation and Processing
Focus on alternative food ingredients, cultured meat, halal feed, as well as processing and strengthening the halal food supply chain.

This initiative leverages UPM's research ecosystem — including the Halal Product Research Institute (IPPH) — to connect core science with commercialization as well as assurance of sharia compliance at the international level.
